This past weekend, the Compass365 and General Networks team gathered to celebrate a milestone that’s rare for any company, let alone a small, independent one: 40 years in business. It was a chance to raise a glass to the people, partnerships, and work that got us here, and to look ahead at the next 40 years with just as much excitement.

Four Decades of Relationships

When we talk about what’s kept Compass365 and General Networks going for 40 years, the honest answer isn’t a single product or technology, it’s relationships. Today, 60% of our business comes from clients we’ve worked with for 10 years or more. That’s not an accident; it’s the result of a simple philosophy we’ve held since the beginning: we succeed when our clients succeed.

Rather than treating engagements as one-off transactions, we’ve invested in understanding our clients’ businesses well enough to be a long-term partner, not just a vendor. That’s the kind of trust that gets built over years, not projects, and it’s exactly what we celebrated last weekend, alongside colleagues and clients who’ve been part of that journey with us.

Our Journey

Compass365 is the Microsoft Collaboration and Content Management Solutions and Services division of General Networks, an industry-leading IT systems integrator delivering technology consulting to organizations that need to manage and process business-critical information. Our roots go back to 1984, when General Networks was founded as an IT systems integrator, and just eight years later, the company made the choice to become employee-owned through an ESOP, a structure that still shapes how we operate today.

General Networks became a Microsoft Gold Partner in 2005, and two years later launched a dedicated SharePoint Practice, which would eventually become Compass365. That practice grew steadily and in 2019 it was rebranded as Compass365. We kept expanding from there, adding Platform Services, Intranets, and Business Applications to our offerings in 2021. Most recently, in 2026, Compass365 grew again with the addition of General Networks’ Intelligent Information Management (IIM) team, rounding out our ability to help clients manage business-critical information end to end. With almost 20 years of delivering Microsoft collaboration and content solutions and 40 years of General Networks behind it, we’re proud to provide services that push the needle for our clients.

Here’s to the Next 40 Years

Milestones like this aren’t just about looking back, they’re a reminder of why we do this work in the first place: to help the organizations we serve become more efficient, more effective, and better equipped for whatever comes next. Last weekend’s celebration was as much about our clients and partners as it was about us. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. We’re proud of what we’ve built together, and we’re just getting started on the next 40 years.
